VINTAGE MOROCCAN BOUCHEROUITE RUG

the word "boucherouite" comes from a moroccan-arabic phrase meaning torn and reused clothing.

in the 1960s, as people began to move away from a nomadic way of life, materials like wool and cotton were becoming scarce. berber women began weaving "rag rugs" from found textiles and remnants of clothing, striving to make something functional, yet beautiful. we love the idea of celebrating the stories and the lives woven in these reused "rags." today, boucherouite rugs are known for their bright, cheerful colors, asymmetrical bohemian patterns, and the sheer creativity of the berber women who created them. they are truly one-of-a-kind pieces!
